A lot of us spend our nights scrolling through Netflix looking for the next series to binge-watch. With the rise in popularity of true crime documentaries, the streaming platform listened and delivered. Here are my top 5 recommendations for you to marathon on your sofa!  1. Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (2019)

After a viral video was spread on the internet in 2010 of an anonymous man killing two kittens, Deanna ‘Baudi Moovan’ Thompson and John Green set up a Facebook group to find this abuser. Working together after a string of more anonymous animal abuse videos are released, the group band together to solve the case against Luke Magnotta. From start to finish, there are twists and turns in this gripping series. Fans of the show can join the original Facebook group that still has the original posts from Thompson, Green and other members.

2. Making a Murderer (2015-present)

Arguably one of the most popular true crime series on Netflix, making a murderer explores the investigation into the wrongful conviction of Stephen Avery for the sexual assault and attempted murder ofPennyBeerntsen. After serving 18 years for the unjust accusation, life goes on normal for Avery until he is further convicted for the murder of Teresa Halbachjust two years after his release. There’re two thrilling seasons of the explorations into the crimes circulating the Avery family.

3. Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes (2019)

A 4-part episode docuseries centers on crimes of Ted Bundy, shown through archived police footage and interviews between him and the police. There are also interviews with his family and the surviving victims. The intriguing 60-minute episodes show a chilling insight into the dark side to Bundy.

4. Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)

This documentary film retells the abduction of Jan Broberg Felt through interviews with the victim and her family, including dramatisations. Felt was abducted twice by a well-trusted neighbour and family friend, Robert Berchtold, while falling victim to years of sexual and emotional abuse.

5. The Disappearance of Madeline McCann (2019)

The highly anticipated documentary retells the events surrounding the unsolved disappearance of Madeline McCann. The 8-episode series explores an avenue of different theories as to what could have happened in 2007 during a family holiday in Portugal. Over a decade of mystery is unraveled with interviews, footage, and stories new to the public.  I hope my suggestions cure some boredom and give people, true crime fans or not, something new to watch and enjoy!
